Black Friday is not quite my style, in fact, it overwhelms me. Waiting outside a big box store is not the Thanksgiving I desire. Maybe I do not understand the savings, but I really don’t think anything they sell would have me waiting for hours. I would rather sit by a roaring fire with a glass of wine chatting with friends and family, but I have established that in previous posts. Thursday night I perused the internet, clicking through many email ads I received for Black Friday. One that caught my attention was Anthropologie. 50% off sale items from 6am to 11am sounded great, so I pre-shopped and had a shopping cart of items. Friday morning I jumped on the internet after the pitter patter of feet woke me and at 7am my items were sold out. Oh well, probably for the better and my items were mainly all for myself.
As I have moved into the Christmas Spirit and ready to shop for others, I am loving this idea of Small Business Saturday.

While I have a hang up on sales tax, and I do my fair share of shopping on the internet especially for toys, I love Memphis’ small businesses.
Where would I be if I could not pop into Spruce for a last minute gift?

Spruce fits the bill on carrying unique items, and I cannot mention how many times I have waited on purchasing something and missed out.

They support local artists and jewelry makers, and they have a great selection of vintage finds, notably the needlepoint pillows.

They also carry a fantastic collection of ornaments and holiday items.

Loving their new glassware collection.

Pop into Spruce or another local business and support our city this Saturday.

On a side note, Selena is also a very talented interior designer and here is an example of her work. What a fabulous foyer, loving the wallpaper.
Thanks Spruce for being such a great small business…if I don’t make it today, I will be heading their way next week to cross off some christmas presents.
What are some of your favorite small businesses in your town?
Cheers, Missy
